My experience as an intern in Spain
My name is Rachel Daw and I have spent 6 months working as an intern in Instituto Hemingway, a Spanish language school in Bilbao.
I study Spanish, German and Italian at Durham University and in order to improve my Spanish as much as possible, I have spent the past 6 months living and working in Bilbao.
I got used to working as an intern in Instituto Hemingway. My main tasks as an intern have involved administration, student support and translating and creation articles for the school’s webpage. Picking up the phone, translating articles and constantly liaising with the students have all been great ways to improve my Spanish, as has my contact with the teachers and staff there.
Furthermore, as part of my role as an intern, I have been able to accompany lots of different groups of students on an endless array of activites.
Before arriving in Bilbao, I´d not seen anything further north than Barcelona so I was eager to discover a wholly different culture.
I can safely say that I am now fascinated by the Basque Country and will most certainly be returning soon.
I am addicted to pintxos, the delicious little morsels of gastronomic heaven and I am enchanted by the stunning Basque farmhouses that are dotted around the rolling countryside. In a way, it reminds me of England, but sadly England does not have the same stunning coastline that Bilbao has to offer.
In summary, I have grown to adore Bilbao and I will certainly be coming back to visit in the not too distant future!
