10 things to do before you go for an Internship
There is no doubt that an Internship placement is a life time experience! The benefits you have while you do this and especially after doing it is more than enough to make you say “yes” to that experience! However there are some things that it’s better to take care of before you start your adventure.
So here is the list:
1) Learn everything about the hosting organization! Before you go you should know who they are, what they do. It will help you to get easier into their way of work. Plus you will be sure that this organization is what you were looking for.
2) Try to learn the language of the hosting country, at least the basics! It will help you survive the first days! Also the locals seem to appreciate your effort to learn their language.
3) Get in touch with the locals! This is something you should do before you reach the place but also during your stay there. It’s the best way to get into the culture and also learn all the secret places. They can help you settle in too.
4) Search information about the place you are going to stay for the next months! Culture, food, activities, transportation, weather, places of interest etc are things that differ from place to place so make your research! In internet you can find everything more or less.
5) Get all the papers needed, it will get you out of many troubles! The most important are the passport, identity cart, European health cart and of course the papers that have to do with your placement like letter of admission, the contract etc!
6) Make sure that you have access to your bank account! Money is important and especially when you are abroad, so for sure you don’t want to stay without it! Before you leave your country just visit a bank and ask if your bank cart can be used abroad! If not then it would be better to have a new one!
7) Take a camera with you! An internship is not only about working in an organization in another country. It is also about travelling! For sure you will see many new things that will get your attention. A picture of them would be the perfect souvenir.
8) Keep a diary; it will be priceless on day! Your internship placement will be for sure a very special experience, with both good and bad moments! It will be nice to have something to read in some years from now and get back to all these moments with every little detail!
9) Select the contact information of friends and family! In your trip, there will be moments that you will miss those persons, no matter how much fun you have in your new place. A phone call, a video-call, a message or even a letter can make things much better!
10) Don´t panic! First days can be difficult, especially when you go alone to a new place. But don´t spend your last days at home worrying about that. Just take your best smile and go!
