Interning in Bilbao
Bilbao is the 4th largest city in Spain with approximately 350, 000 inhabitants, positioned nicely in northern Spain on the Basque Coast. The city has a lot to offer a student who would like to come and spend some time here working and enjoying all that the city has to offer. Bilbao is especially attractive for those who want to live and work in a slightly smaller city and escape the traditional big tourist cities like Barcelona or Madrid.
Bilbao has come a long way from its industrial past and has now transformed itself to become one of the most interesting and vibrant cities in Spain, surrounded by mountains and wonderful beaches along the northern coastline. It´s become the cultural hub of the north and well known for its university life, pintxos bars and array of cultural and artistic activities. Bilbao is without a doubt, a great place to study, work, explore and discover something new. So, all in all, a great place to do just about anything!
Bilbao can be easily accessed thanks to the city’s international airport just 20 minutes away by bus. Currently, the city has direct and low cost flights to London Stansted, Manchester, and Frankfurt etc. Also, Bilbao is only 1 hour away from Santander, where the low cost airline ryannair is based with direct flights to many other cities in Spain, giving you the option to travel around Spain for a spot of sightseeing both easily and cheaply. Furthermore, Bilbao has an excellent coach service which allows you to explore and travel to other cities within close proximity to Bilbao and in fact many can be reached just under two hours, such as Santander, San Sebastian, Pamplona and Vitoria, the capital of the Basque country.
