Doing an internship at Instituto Hemingway: what an experience!
As part of my degree, I had to go to Spain for a year and choose between studying or doing an internship. I thought: Why not gain some work experience while working on my language skills? And I am sure I made the right choice! I have been here for two months and feel like I have grown in so many ways.
On a professional level, this internship has opened my eyes to the reality of working life. It has made me more responsible, pushed me to use my own judgement and initiative to resolve problems, and has given me the opportunity to improve my translation skills.
On a cultural level, I have been able to discover and be part of the real Spanish way of life – this total immersion has helped me understand the Spanish culture and of course, drastically improve my spoken Spanish. Thanks to the cultural activities Instituto Hemingway has to offer, and which I regularly was put in charge of, I also learned a lot about the city of Bilbao and all it has to offer: pintxos, good wine, world famous museums like the Guggenheim, beaches nearby for those who like to relax and listen to the waves, but also incredible mountains for the more adventurous.
And on a personal level, I have learned to be independent and to adapt to new surroundings. I have met amazing people, some Spanish and others coming from all over the world, and I have built what I think will be some long lasting friendships.
